Loss Rehabilitation Service Overview
Vision
Loss Rehabilitation was established in 1980 to provide on-site
specialized training programs for health care staff working with
visually impaired individuals. Innovative in-service training
programs, consultations and treatment plans, were provided to
both large and small organizations throughout New England and
the Mid-Atlantic States.
The
Older Adult
Don’t wait for a diagnosis of legal blindness or low vision;
early intervention can prevent reduced function for older adults
experiencing declining contrast sensitivity, reduced depth perception
and increased need for lighting. Our primary goal is to prepare
staff to be knowledgeable about the impact of age-related vision
changes, as well as informed about the procedures for addressing
those changes. Although the level of assistance increases for
those experiencing a more profound vision loss, early intervention
eases the transition.
The Developmentally Challenged
Essential training programs are available for those individuals
who are developmentally challenged and visually impaired. To address
the needs created by identified vision loss, individualized treatment
plans are developed. Modifications made to standard rehabilitation
techniques that address vision loss, will promote safer participation
in daily activities for the visually impaired person with developmental
disabilities. Our goal is to assist staff to detect undiagnosed
visual impairment and to address the functional implications associated
with a vision loss.
